Basingstoke Ladies Choir Annual Concert 2019 with special guests Jubilate (Voices in Celebration).  

An evening of singing  a varied programme of songs from two acclaimed ladies choirs.

Basingstoke Ladies Choir has over 40 members who sing all styles of music from secular, folk, show-stoppers to the latest chart-busters. In concert, songs are sung from memory. Over the past years the choir has sung overseas and in various UK locations. The choir raises funds for various community causes. www.basingstokeladieschoir.co.uk



Choral Conductor
Robert T. Elliott
Rob grew up in South Wales as part of a musical family. He was Founder and Musical Director until 2013 of Britain;s most successful Male Choir, Wessex Male Choir, winning over 20 competition prizes. In 2017, he was Festival Director of the Worlds largest Male Choir Festival (over 60 Male Choirs taking part !), and today continues to expand on his choral workshops, adjudicating and choir coaching roles. Rob took over as Conductor of Basingstoke Ladies Choir in autumn of 2017.

Accompanist
Jonathan Hedgecock
Jonathan is a talented music arranger and accompanist. He joined the Choir in December 1982. He has arranged a number of popular pieces. He was born and raised in Basingstoke. He has played piano from the age of six. Jonathan works in the paper making industry and likes to spend as much of his time as possible with his wife and young son

Basingstoke Ladies Choir meets on Monday nights at 7.30pm at the Carnival Hall in Basingstoke and during rehearsals new songs are learnt, known repertoire revised and vocal technique and vocal health instruction is given as we work hard to aim for high standards of performance.  BLC raise funds in concerts for many charities and are proud to represent Basingstoke and the County of Hampshire.

ABOUT OUR SPECIAL GUESTS JUBILATE

Jubilate is an award-winning choir known for its entertaining repertoire, high standard of performance and sense of fun. Formed in 1995, it currently has around 40 members and rehearses weekly in Pinner. In May 2018 the choir won four trophies - including the prestigious Gold Cup for most outstanding choir - at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. Jubilate has been broadcast on Radio 3 and in December 2017 a track from our Christmas CD was broadcast on Classic FM.  www.jubilatesingers.org.uk

Musical Director - Sarah Stroh
Sarah grew up in Northamptonshire and now lives in Chorleywood. She studied music at Hull University and then at the Royal Academy of Music where she specialised in singing. As well as performing, Sarah enjoys enthusing others about the joy of music and singing, teaching singing at St. Pauls Girls School in London and running Little Notes music sessions for babies and pre-schoolers. Sarah has been Musical Director of Jubilate since 1999.

Accompanist - Simon Hester
Simon Hester was born in Sheffield and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. His career has covered a wide range of musical worlds, and his versatility is much admired in both classical and jazz repertoire. He has given recitals throughout Great Britain and Europe. Simons work for violin and piano Dark Eyes Variations was premiered in London last year and a number of his piano works are due for publication this year. Two years ago his piano concerto was premiered with Simon as soloist. Simons popular YouTube channel The Lonely Pianist celebrates the art of piano improvisation.
